There is often a long line, and you may spend about a half hour in-line before getting to the front. Be advised that although there is a line, everyone has the same time for the test. Do not be later than ten to fifteen minutes. If you forget your original documents such as MV-278 or MV-262 for testing, you will have to reschedule the test.
One of the DMV personnel, the chief examiner, will check your documents before the test begins, or present the documents to the examiner when she/he approaches your car. It is best to exit the vehicle before the examiner comes to you. You may change drivers after that, but do not leave the student driver alone behind the steering wheel.

STARTING: When leaving the curb, perform the routine as normal. There is only one lane in each direction and you may have to cross the yellow lines when leaving if necessary. Be sure to leave when it is safe, not just because the examiner says go. This is probably the most important part of the road test, because Hollis Hills Ter is the busiest road in the test area except for Union tpke. Get ready for 20mph and the speed bumps coming up. Do not go over the speed bumps at 20mph. Remember, it is not how well you drive that matters, but rather how safely you do it.

Also, be sure you do not cut off other drivers on the return, and keep off the yellow lines! You will finish the road test inside the parking lot across from the start line, as seen here.

If you find yourself looking for the easiest test site, then the need to do so is your first indicator that you may need more practice in order to pass the DMV road test and be ready to drive safely. Ask yourself why you need to search for the easiest test site?

The reality is that it should not matter where you take the DMV road test, because all roads utilize traffic sign, white lines, yellow lines, other vehicles, and curbs.

Compare Nassau and Queens road test sites

Compare Freshmeadows

These two road test sites basically share the same park area, and are only about one mile apart. It is important to realize that the same DMV personnel will test interchangeably in both sites. The most important difference is that Fresh Meadows roads are a bit wider and flat.

Garden City Park

It is best to remember that Garden City Park is a Nassau County road test site. New drivers from the city don't normally have issues with right turn on red, compared to Nassau County drivers. Also, Garden City Park roads are a bit smaller.

Hicksville

Just like Hicksville, the roads here are mostly flat and wide, with good visibility. In Hicksville you may have to negotiate route 107 - a multilane road before making a left turn onto a side tree. But just like Hicksville and most other test sites, you will start and finish next to a park.

The Department Of Motor Vehicles does not provide these services at a road test site.

I have seen people make a dash inside the tree line many times. You don't have to. Leave your vehicle on the line (someone should remain with it) Walk across the parking lot towards the tunnel under the highway. To the right of the ball field is a public restroom. It's about a ten minute walk.

Understand the following words:
Right turn, Left turn, Three point turn, Broken U turn, Parallel park, Change lanes, Curb stop.
