There is often a line, and you may spend about a half hour in-line before getting to the front. Be advised that although there is a line, everyone has the same time for the test. Do not be later than ten to fifteen minutes. If you forget your original documents such as MV-278 or MV-262 for testing, you will have to reschedule the test.
One of the DMV personnel, the chief examiner, will check your documents before the test begins. You may change drivers after that, but do not leave the student driver alone in the car.
STARTING. When leaving the curb. perform the routine as normal, but be sure to leave when it is safe not just because the examiner says go. With the exception of the students taking their road test, this test area is very quiet, so be sure to follow the rules.
After you leave the curb, there will be three options ahead. (1) The first or second left turn, or (3) the first right turn ahead as you go towards the end of the park. It is unfortunate that some students fail the exam by becoming too relaxed due the the roads being quiet and country like. For example, when stopping at a four way - cross street - intersection do not assume that the other driver has a stop sign also. You must be certain of that by reading the signs ahead and inching up if necessary for a second or third look before proceeding.
The roads in Riverhead may be smaller than what you may be used to, but be sure to keep right even if there is no double yellow lines marking the center of the roadway. Pay particular attention to the fact that there may be no visible curbs in certain areas. This is important because when backing up or curb stopping you must keep off the grass or dirt.
If the examiner returns all your documents ( MV-278 and or MV-262 ) along with your road test results and permit, then you did not pass. If the examiner returns only your permit and the road test results, then you passed! Be sure to sign the receipt. Your photo license (same as permit) will be mailed to your original address in about two weeks. But, don't worry if it takes up to ninety days to arrive in the mail.

As of 2020, The DMV examiners no longer inform applicants of their road test results - in person.
All Road Test Results will be posted online after 5PM.

Garden City Park Map
It is best to remember that Garden City Park is a Nassau County road test site. Drivers from the city don't normally have issues with right turn on red, compared to Nassau County drivers. Also, Garden City Park roads are a bit smaller.

Hicksville Map

The roads here are mostly flat and wide, with good visibility. In Hicksville you may have to negotiate route 107 - a multilane road, before making a left turn onto a side street. But just like Hicksville and most other test sites, you will start and finish next to a park.

Map of Cunningham Park

The roads here are smaller than Freshmeadows. You need to pay particular attention to leavng the curb correctly. Early morning hours can be bussy, so be patient. As with all City Road Test sites, be sure to watch out for one way streets (In the wrong directions) Do not refuse to enter a dead-end street if asked to do so.

Motorcycle test are done here also. image

If you find yourself looking for the easiest test site, then the need to do so is your first indicator that you may need more practice in order to pass the DMV road test and be ready to drive safely. Ask yourself why you need to search out the easiest test site?
The reality is that it should not matter where you take the DMV road test, because all roads utilize traffic sign, white lines, yellow lines, other vehicles, and curbs.
Your Final Test Tip
If you get really nervous, just repeat what the examiner says to you out loud. Don't talk to them. But let them know that your are listening.

RESTROOMS
Leave you vehicle online. There is a rest room in the park across from where the road test begins. Be sure to use it before the examiner gets to your vehicle and the road test begins.
